News ReleaseMore buses and increase in service coming for IslandLink's new Nanaimo-Tofino route
Nanaimo (May 8, 2023) - IslandLink's new Nanaimo-Tofino bus service has carried more than 1,100 passengers since starting the new route on January 30, 2023.
"We knew there was a need for year-round bus service on this route and the enthusiastic response over the last three months is proof," says Phillip Morgan, owner of IslandLink. "We are thrilled that travellers in the region have accepted us as a provider of reliable and efficient bus service and we thank everyone for continuing to book seats with us."
To keep up with increasing demand in the area, IslandLink is pleased to announce it will use two new 24-seat buses on the Nanaimo-Torino route. And starting on May 18, IslandLink will increase the Nanaimo-Tofino route frequency to a daily service, and will operate the route year-round, in both directions:
- Daily service: Nanaimo - Ucluelet and Tofino
- Daily service: Port Alberni - Ucluelet and Tofino
- Twice-daily service: Nanaimo - Port Alberni
"We are here to stay as we continue to build and enhance our service in the region," adds Morgan. "In fact, with our new vehicles, we are doubling the daily seat capacity for this route with a year-round transportation solution. We have the Island covered."

IslandLink is celebrating its 25th year of service in 2023. Islandlink started in 1998 with bus service from Qualicum Beach, French Creek and Parksville to the Departure Bay Ferry Terminal. The service was designed to serve as a connector for Horseshoe Bay/Departure Bay foot passengers. That remains the focus of our service today serving four BC Ferries terminals: Departure Bay, Little River, Buckley Bay and Campbell River to provide connecting bus transportation for ferry foot passengers. Islandlink carries more than 50,000 passengers a year and operates up to 18 buses.
